Look at the 2017 Volkswagen 3-Row SUV
Volkswagen has been steady over the years, slowly but surely adding models to its line-up as time passes. While the brand has been known for providing cars that are smart and sophisticated, perfect for city living, they have come in late to the SUV market. The Tiguan small crossover SUV and the Touareg large crossover SUV has proven to be popular models, and now Volkswagen plans to add to its family with a three-row, seven-seat SUV.
The upcoming three-row SUV still doesn’t have a name, but it does have a face that has been spotted out on the roads already. While the front and rear fascias have been masked on the road, the overall lines of the upcoming SUV have a similar flow to the Touareg. The roofline is particularly similar, having nearly an identical curve and slope. The front end will no doubt continue to blend with the corporate branding, featuring horizontal bars and a centered logo. In recent months, VW has shown multiple concepts, the CrossBlue and the Cross Coupe, with the blockier headlamp assemblies of the CrossBlue looking to carry over into the new vehicle.
The well-proportioned new vehicle looks to use the same chassis that is found underneath the current Golf as well as will be found under the upcoming new generation of the Tiguan. To accommodate the extra space, the wheelbase will stretch to 117.3 inches, roughly 3 inches longer than the current Touareg. This indicates that, while you’ll get a third row in the upcoming SUV, your cargo capacity will decrease, and even with the rear row stowed, won’t be that much greater than the Touareg. It also means that the new vehicle should behave the same as the Touareg, taking up roughly the same footprint on the road.
Solid Powertrain Selection
While the specifics haven’t been confirmed, we expect that new SUV will have the same 3.6-liter V6 engine found in the Touareg, along with the 8-speed automatic and all-wheel drive available, if not standard. This powertrain has shown itself to be economic and reliable over the last few years, and plenty of our customers have been pleased with this powertrain. Other options such as a turbocharged 2.0-liter engine or a hybrid powertrain have been suggested, and we feel that at least one, if not both, will be offered when the SUV debuts. All-wheel drive will be part of the package, as well as a wide variety of driver assistance features.
A combination of comfort and technology highlights the modern interior of the new three-row SUV. The dimensions will offer plenty of space for adults in the front and second rows, while the third row aims to be one of the most spacious in the class. An easily-movable second row allows for easier entrance and exit from the third row. Numerous storage cubbies have been built in, with storage for electronics and luggage. The latest technology available ranges from dual USB ports for the second row, to a navigation system, and much more.
Close to Home
The great news about the upcoming Volkswagen three-row SUV is that it will be produced right here in America, at Volkswagen’s Tennessee plant. This is encouraging, and shows that Volkswagen continues to solidify its manufacturing presence in the United States.
