Updated VW Passat For 2016
We’re finally getting to see the updated 2016 VW Passat that was unveiled at the 2014 Volkswagen Auto Show in Geneva, Switzerland. Although it’s a fantastic vehicle that went like gangbusters in Europe, previous versions of the Passat didn’t fare as well in North American markets as Volkswagen hoped they would. That should change as word gets out about the exciting updated VW Passat.
We’ve been looking forward to it for quite some time. When it first hit American markets, the Passat had a solid debut and we expect the updated look will take the Passat beyond even that strong start.
German Engineering / American Manufacturing Perfect Fit for U.S Roads
The new Passat continues to be built here in the State — at the Volkswagen Chattanooga Assembly Plant in Tennessee – and many of its redesigned features were designed specifically with the U.S. market in mind.
Those who know and love the Passat – and really, there has always been plenty to love – will continue to enjoy a roomy interior, wide selection of powertrain options, the best German engineering, smooth handling and stylishness. You’ll also notice that the VW Passat has a whole new look.
Passat’s Getting a Whole New Look
Focus groups found that much of what hindered the VW Passat’s sales were purely cosmetic. If you’ve ever drive one, you already know it isn’t the car’s handling or performance. So, if getting one of the best midsized sedans off the lots and into the driveways where it belongs takes giving her a facelift, that’s what she’ll get.
So, what exactly has been redesigned to give the 2016 VW Passat a fresh look? The wheels, head and tail lights and instrument panel are all new and the overall body shape have all been modified significantly. On the inside, the infotainment system has been completely upgraded to not only bring it up to date but put it ahead of the competition.
One thing we’re told we can expect is that the new 2016 VW Passat will distinguish itself more significantly from the Jetta, which got its own makeover last year for the 2015 model. In a nutshell, the family sedan will still have a relatively conservative look, but with a bit more of a progressive look than past years’ models. Those who loved the previous models will still love the 2016 model and we expect Passat will gain plenty of new fans with its upgraded styling.
The Looks are Changing
But That’s Not All
Of course, Volkswagen wouldn’t give us an updated version with only cosmetic changes. There are plenty of substantive changes as well to enhance your driving experience. In addition to the new infotainment system, there are plenty of new standard and optional features, including some new driver’s assist features to ensure greater safety on the road.
Changes to 2016 Passat Herald Things to Come for Volkswagen
The changes to the Passat are part of an overall strategy to bring more significant mid-cycle changes to Volkswagen’s line of vehicles. The general idea is to keep the designs – particularly the cosmetic aspects of the designs – fresh. Much of that is because, frankly, American car buyers demand something new and exciting if they’re going to buy — much more so than European and Asian car buyers.
